Man killed in Sylmar, reportedly shot in chest at cemetery

A 25-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning in Sylmar, authorities said. A broadcast report said the crime occurred at a cemetery.

The death was reported at about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 1 in the 13000 block of Lopez Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators learned that the victim was parked at the location with several other people when a small sedan drove by and someone inside the vehicle fired several rounds at the crowd, striking the victim,” according to an LASD statement. “A second gunshot victim self-transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening wounds.”

ABC7 reported that the death occurred at Glen Haven & Sholom Memorial Park, a cemetery. The station also cited a woman at the scene who said the victim was her husband or boyfriend and that he was shot in the chest. Investigators said he was shot in the “upper torso.”
