Even when compared to the world’s “Big Four” fashion weeks in New York City, London, Milan, and Paris, Miami Swim Week stands distinguished by both the beachy accommodations offered in its increasingly affluent host city and a titular dedication to a single product category: swimwear.
What began as a traditional trade show for vendors in the 1980s morphed into an event tailored to promote the sport of open-water swimming through the 1990s and early 2000s, alongside which grew a grassroots fashion ecosystem. But the scintillating bikini-clad spectacle recognized as MSW today is really the product of a takeover by powerhouse modeling agency IMG in 2004, which made celebrity-studded parties and haute runway shows staples of MSW. While IMG’s production of the event ended in 2015, the opulent foundation it laid survived and thrived through multiple rebrands, eventually evolving into a decentralized, designer-forward affair that continues to diversify annually.
Among the freshest designers is Melanie San Roman. The proud South Texan model, entrepreneur, and pageant queen—who just took the Miss Wyoming USA crown through Miss USA’s open casting process—recently spoke with Maxim about the MSW debut of Blossom Fit Wear. The athleticwear and swimwear label was born from mental anguish San Roman was subjected to in the wake of a particularly pernicious breakup, built through San Roman’s entrepreneurial ambition, and, admirably, benefits society—a portion of the proceeds goes to organizations that provide mental health services to others.
“Blossom isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling good from the inside out,” San Roman says. “We design with a purpose, which is why a portion of all our proceeds is donated directly to mental health awareness.” Read on to learn more about her entrepreneurial journey and experience at MSW 2026:
When we last spoke, you’d just found out that Blossom Fit Wear would be making its Miami Swim Week debut. Tell us about that experience.
It was beautifully chaotic but incredibly fun, pulling double duty by walking in five shows as a model while managing the runway for two showcases as a designer. The opportunity came full circle when a previous show I had walked for reached out specifically for me to design. It was a fast-paced, whirlwind experience that perfectly blended my background on the runway with the launch of Blossom Fit Wear bikinis.
Was this your first time at Miami Swim Week?
As a model, I’m no stranger to the Miami Swim Week chaos, but this year was a massive milestone. It was my first time stepping behind the curtain to showcase my own line as a designer.
What collection did you debut?
The Mindset Shift, which featured reversible sports bras and bikinis. The name is a nod to mental health, as each bikini has two prints.
What was the reaction like?
The reaction to Blossom Fit Wear at Miami Swim Week was overwhelmingly positive! The energy backstage and on the runway was incredible, fueled by fantastic feedback from the models, who loved the fit and feel of the pieces. The collection grabbed a ton of attention, bringing in a wealth of beautiful media photos that perfectly captured the line’s vibrant spirit. On the business and connection side, it was a massive success. We made some incredible new contacts within the industry, and the momentum has translated directly into demand—we are officially pre-selling the bikinis right now while they’re in production!
What surprised you about MSW this year?
The absolute powerhouse of networking. There’s inspiration and opportunity around literally every single corner—you never know who you’re going to meet backstage or at an after-party.
Were there any other runway shows that impressed you?
The Queen Beauty Network show by Modaire was spectacular. It was an absolute honor to have so many incredible former beauty queens walking for Blossom, including Miss Louisiana and Miss Earth USA. They brought pure royalty to the runway.
Did you meet any celebrities?
I actually got to walk while Jason Derulo was performing live on the runway, and he serenaded me mid-walk. It was an unforgettable moment.
How would you describe Blossom Fit Wear’s mission?
Blossom was created to champion better mental health both in and out of the gym. From our vibrant, mood-boosting prints to our dedication to donating back to mental health awareness, we’re all about empowering your mind, body, and spirit.
What makes for a perfect bikini design?
It’s the holy trinity of swimwear: It has to be unique enough to turn heads, but comfortable and flawlessly fitted enough that you actually feel confident moving in it. If you aren’t comfortable, it’s not the perfect bikini.
