Meghan Markle is trading her glamorous acting career for more philanthropic roles now that she’s joining the royal family.
Prince Harry revealed that he is taking on the role of the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, and Markle will be joining him.
It’s one of several new roles Markle is expected to take now that she’s leaving her acting career to focus on charity work.

Now that Meghan Markle is finished with her role on the show “Suits,” she’ll officially trade in her acting career for more philanthropic duties when she marries Prince Harry on May 19. While her new roles in the royal family seem much less glamorous than those of an actress, they still seem like a perfect fit for the bride-to-be.

On Monday, Prince Harry revealed in a speech during the opening of the 11th Commonwealth Youth Forum that he will be taking on the role of the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador — and Markle will be joining him.

“I am incredibly grateful that the woman I am about to marry, Meghan, will be joining me in this work, of which she too is hugely excited to take part in,” Harry said in his speech.

According to People, Harry and Markle will partake in meetings and tours throughout the Commonwealth — which is comprised of 53 independent countries that are mostly former territories of the British Empire — to address the concerns of the youth in these countries.

While speaking in front of 500 young leaders gathered for the Commonwealth Youth Forum, Harry briefly highlighted some of the issues they’d be tackling.

“The complicated challenges we face — climate change, inequality, conflict — they do not discourage you,” he said in his speech. “Rather, they inspire you to persevere and effect change.”

The announcement of Markle’s new position is a good indicator of how her life will change once she officially becomes a member of the royal family. We’ve already seen the royal-to-be shutter her social media and lifestyle blog The Tig, proving that she’ll now be less directly connected to her audience. Instead, we’ll largely see Markle interacting with members of the public through charity events and other official royal engagements.

Markle was given her first official royal job back in February, when she was announced as the fourth patron of the Royal Foundation alongside Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton. According to the BBC, charities use royal patrons’ visibility as a way to generate awareness for the organization’s cause.

These new duties seem like they’ll be a natural fit for Markle, as she has previously proven her philanthropic side by serving as an ambassador for organizations such as World Vision and One Young World.

Markle even addressed her new platform in her first joint interview with Harry back in November.
