Donald Trump’s claims that London is so dangerous that people are being ‘stabbed in the a**’ has sparked a pushback from the Met Police boss.

The US president made the bizarre comment last month during an interview, claiming that London is not what it was during his mother’s life because people are being stabbed ‘or worse.’

He went on to attack the London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, again, saying he is a ‘nasty person,’ before repeating the debunked myth about London’s ‘no-go’ zones.

Now the Metropolitan Police commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, has hit back at Trump, labelling his comments as ‘complete nonsense.’

Speaking on LBC’s Nick Ferrari call-in, Rowley said: ‘There is no no-go areas, that is completely false.

‘How anybody in America can suggest the UK is violent, is completely ridiculous. The homicide rate in London is lower than in every single US state, it is lower than all their big cities.

‘The homicide rate in London is lower than in Toronto, Paris, Brussels and Berlin.

‘This is a safe city. I’m not going to pretend it’s perfect, but it is a safe city.

‘This trend of trying to rubbish London, driven by politics, we need to fight back about it.’

However, Rowley refused to comment on Trump’s remarks about Sadiq Khan, saying he doesn’t want to get ‘involved’ in political spats.

He said: ‘I’ll leave the political sparring to the politicians.’

What has Trump said about Sadiq Khan?

Trump said in an interview with GB News weeks ago: ‘He [Sadiq Khan] treated me very badly. He is a terrible mayor and look at the crime you have in London.

‘My mother loved London. That was a different London than you have today. Today you have people being stabbed in the a** or worse.’

Trump has previously falsely claimed that the London mayor wants to instate Sharia law in the capital, and called him a ‘terrible’ mayor on several occasions.

The POTUS said during his rambling UN speech in September: ‘I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been so changed.

‘Now they want to go to Sharia law but you’re in a different country, you can’t do that.’

Khan hit back at Trump’s claims, joking that the US president has got ‘a crush on me’ due to his repeated tirades against the mayor.

Khan exclusively told Metro: ‘People will be wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multicultural, successful, diverse city. It seems to me that I’m living rent free inside Donald Trump’s head.

‘I think he’s got a crush on me. It’s either that or he believes in giving me squatters’ rights inside his head.’
