A former Met Police officer allegedly engaged sex workers’ services while at work.

Imran Patel, who is also accused of accessing adult websites while on duty, faces a misconduct hearing in January.

The former police constable’s alleged transgressions are said to have taken place on May 5, 2022. The ex-police constable quit the force last year.

He is also accused of committing fraud by using his position as an officer to take money and driving licence from a citizen in 2021.

And in 2022, a stab vest was allegedly found at his home even though he had no lawful reason to have it there.

The misconduct hearing, scheduled to take place from January 7 to 9, could see Patel found guilty of gross misconduct.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has led the investigation, said Patel will not face criminal charges.

An IOPC spokesperson said: “We did criminally investigate the officer over an allegation of theft but, in January 2024, decided not to refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service.”

Patel’s sexual misdemeanours are alleged to have happened while Baroness Casey carried out her 2022 investigation into the Met.

The report, carried out in the wake of Sarah Everard’s murder, found the Met Police was institutionally racist, homophobic and misogynistic.

The allegations against Patel are the latest in a long string of scandals gripping the capital’s police force.

The Met Police has been under renewed scrutiny ever since Sarah Everard’s murder in March 2021.

The 33-year-old was kidnapped by serving firearms officer Wayne Couzens, after walking back from a friend’s home in Clapham.

The 48-year-old then raped and murdered the marketing executive, burned her body in a fridge in a woodland area, before dumping her remains in a pond.

Couzens, who was already known as ‘the rapist’ by colleagues due to his taste for extreme pornography, was sentenced to a whole-life prison term.

Last month, an undercover investigation by BBC Panorama alleged sexist attitudes at Charing Cross station.

One sergeant was filmed giving colleagues graphic accounts of his sex life, despite female colleagues’ objections.

Ten Metropolitan Police officers are to face accelerated misconduct hearings following the BBC report.
