Subway service through a stretch of downtown Los Angeles will be suspended starting Friday night, Nov. 15, and continuing through the weekend to accommodate electrical upgrades as part of a larger Metro improvement project.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, service on the Metro B (Red) and D (Purple) lines will be suspended between the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station and Union Station. The subway stations at Pershing Square, Civic Center/Grand Park and Union Station will all be closed during the suspension, which will continue until 4 a.m. Monday.
The closure will only affect subway service at Union Station. All other Metro services at Union Station will remain open.
Subway passengers who need to travel between the Seventh/Metro Station and Union Station can utilize the Metro A (Blue) Line. The Metro J (Silver) Line express bus and other local bus lines also offer service between the two stations. Detailed information is available online at metro.net/tripplaner.

A free shuttle bus will be offered between Pershing Square and Seventh/Metro stations. The J Line and local bus lines also connect those stations.
Riders traveling between the Civic Center/Grand Park and Seventh/Metro stations can also utilize the J Line or local buses. Riders can also access the Metro A (Blue) or E (Expo) Lines, which both travel between Seventh/Metro and the Historic Broadway Station, which is at Broadway and Second Street.
According to Metro, the service suspension will accommodate “traction power cutover activities” as part of a project to upgrade a downtown rail yard by widening a rail tunnel south of the 101 Freeway, while also adding a train turnback facility and readjusting train storage tracks.
