Following the success of MGM’s “Creed III,” Michael B. Jordan and Amazon are negotiating a film and television universe that expands the “Creed” boxing world. diversity has confirmed.
There are few details on what projects are being discussed, but sources say talks are ongoing to explore opportunities to capitalize on the success of the MGM film series on Prime Video following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM.
Amazon declined to comment and a representative from Jordan did not immediately respond diversitys please.
Creed III was a box office winner with its impressive $58.7 million debut and set a franchise record while dethroning two-time domestic chart champion Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania .
Jordan plays heavyweight champion Adonis Creed, son of boxing legend Apollo Creed, in the film, alongside Jonathan Majors as his childhood friend-turned-rival. It’s the first entry in the long-running series without Sylvester Stallone, who established the role of Rocky Balboa and returned in the spinoffs as Adonis’ mentor. His absence didn’t seem to affect ticket sales.
The film opened internationally at US$41.8 million and brought its global box office to US$100.4 million.
It’s also a big win for theater owners who are banking on the luck of continuing with upcoming releases Scream VI, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and John Wick: Chapter 4 in March. Overall ticket sales are up 37% from the same point in 2022, according to Comscore.
Deadline first reported the news that a “Creed” universe is in the works at Amazon that Jordan is a part of.
