The newly crowned Miss Universe sparked a mass walkout from the competition in a moment described as ‘the most empowering act in the pageant’s history.’
Victoria Theilvig, the first Danish contestant to win the top title, stormed out during the sashing ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand.
It came in solidarity with Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, who was escorted out by security for not showing executive director Nawat Itsaragrisi ‘enough respect’.
In the video, the boss can be heard saying: ‘Mexico where are you?
‘I heard you’re not going to post everything about everything in Thailand…’, seemingly referring to the request for contestants to post promotional stories about the competition on their social media.
When Bosch, 26, responded, the boss tried to silence her, demanding: ‘I’m still talking, listen.’
She then defended herself, saying: ‘I have a voice. You’re not respecting me as a woman.’

Gasps filled the room as Itsaragrisil called for security to escort Miss Mexico out.
2024 Miss Universe winner decided to take a stand in solidarity after the boss called Bosch ‘dumb’.
As the other women joined in and began leaving the room, the boss is repeatedly heard saying ‘stop’, ‘sit down’ and ‘If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down.’
The display of empowerment was shared to social media and quickly gained praise from other women.
Theilvig’s walkout was hailed as an act of integrity and courage by fans and former contestants.
Miss Universe posted a video statement from Raúl Rocha, president of the organisation.
He said: ‘I will not allow the values of respect and dignity toward women to be violated.
‘Unfortunately, Nawat has forgotten the true meaning of what it means to be a genuine host.
‘It means to demonstrate to all delegates of all countries that he, as a host, has an obligation to serve them, assist them and support them.
‘And to ensure they have a unique life experience filled with kindness and courtesy.’
He said he has restricted Nawat’s participation in the upcoming Miss Universe events.
He has instructed their CEO, on behalf of the Miss Universe Organisation, to detail all corporate and legal actions they will undertake as a result of the ‘malicious acts’ committed by Nawat.
‘We will not allow, not a single person, to cause harm and to thwart the dreams of so many women who travelled from all over the world to be here.’
