The body of a woman who went missing early Tuesday after a vehicle plunged into the Little Calumet River was pulled from the water Wednesday morning and has died, according to Chicago police. A man also died in the crash on the city’s Far South Side.
Ralphealle Howard, 26, was pulled out of the water in the 13000 block of South Indiana Avenue at 10:48 a.m., police said. She was taken to Roseland Hospital, where she later died.
Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Chevrolet Trailblazer with five adults inside was westbound at the Indiana Avenue address when the driver lost control and, struck a barrier and fell into the water, police said.
Trumayne Sanders, 24, was rescued by the marine unit and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Howard was initially reported missing, officials said.
Three others were able to make it to land safely and were treated by Chicago Fire Department officials, police said.
Howard’s death is under investigation.
