Moment cattle prod attacker batters neighbour with shovel in violent rampage before being restrained by hero passers-by

THIS is the moment a cattle prod attacker battered her neighbour with a shovel in a violent rampage.

Paula Attwood-Rees, 59, broke into the home Jacqueline Teague shared with husband Chris armed with a metal pole, two knives and the cattle prod.

The ex-cop punched Jacqueline, 69, in the face – breaking her nose – then slashed at her with the blades she was carrying.

Husband Chris desperately tried to stop his raging neighbour but was hit with the iron poker.

Attwood-Rees told the couple she was going to kill them during the savage attack in Monkswood, Monmouthshire.

Dramatic footage then showed the assault continuing outside their home.

Attwood-Rees was captured smashing Jacqueline over the head with a shovel in a bid to stop her calling 999.

The horror only ended when hero passers-by rushed over to restrain the thug before police arrived to arrest her.

Attwood-Rees has now been jailed for six years and two months after pleading guilty to wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and aggravated burglary with intent.

She also admitted common assault of an emergency worker, and two counts of causing criminal damage to property.

On the day of the attack in May, Attwood-Rees had been convicted of causing criminal damage to her neighbour’s cars.

The footage showed the thug smashing two vehicles with the pole in the street.

As Jacqueline and Chris settled down to eat dinner, Attwood-Rees kicked her way through the French windows into the couple’s living room and launched into the attack.

Jacqueline, who had suffered two strokes, could be seen falling to her knees as the shovel was brought down on her head.

When police arrived, Attwood-Rees continued her rampage – kicking a cop as he attempted to handcuff her.

She was then captured in bodycam being shoved to the ground by officers as she was arrested over the horror.

Jacqueline and Chris were treated in hospital for their injuries and later told how they feared they would be murdered by their neighbour.

The couple said they had lived in the house for 38 years but have since moved out because they no longer feel safe.

Attwood-Rees has previous convictions dating back to 2008 – including assaulting police officers.

The court heard she suffered from PTSD after serving as a response officer with South Wales Police.

She also has a frontal lobe brain injury, which experts say can alter personalities.

As well as a prison sentence, Attwood-Rees was also slapped with an indefinite restraining order.

Detective Constable Abigail Short, the officer in the case, said: “Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own homes and on their property.

“It was truly terrifying for these two victims when the defendant burst into their home uninvited with the sole intention of attacking them and causing harm.

“Luckily neither were seriously injured but the potential risk of harm that these dangerous and prohibited weapons could have caused is frightening.

“I hope the victims can continue the process of moving on and rebuilding their lives after this traumatic attack, but I’d also like to thank the man whose brave actions prevented further escalation.”
