Motorcyclist killed after running red light and crashing into SUV, Aurora police say


A motorcyclist died Saturday after speeding through a red light in Aurora and crashing into another vehicle, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Quintero Street at 10:35 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

The preliminary investigation revealed the man riding the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Iliff Avenue when he collided with a Honda SUV traveling southbound on Quintero Street, the release stated.

Police said the motorcyclist was “traveling at a high rate of speed and disregarded the red light at the intersection” before crashing into the Honda.

Pedestrian killed in crash with motorist in Aurora late Sunday night

The driver of the SUV was uninjured, and the driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital where he died from his his injuries Saturday afternoon, according to the release.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release his name at a later time.

The crash, which remains under investigation, marks Aurora’s 47th traffic-related death this year.
