Motorcyclist killed in 50-foot fall off LA freeway transition near Harbor Gateway

A motorcyclist was killed late Monday during a single-vehicle crash on a freeway transition road in South Los Angeles, just north of Harbor Gateway.

The crash occurred about 11:20 p.m. on the transition road linking the eastbound 105 Freeway to the southbound 110 Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Nasir.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Nasir said.

A SigAlert closing the transition a little before midnight was canceled at 2:19 a.m.

The motorcyclist was on the transition road when his bike struck something on the road and ejected him from the vehicle, according to a source at the scene. The motorcyclist fell more than 50 feet, landing in the parking lot of a Metro station at 117th Street and Figueroa Avenue.

There was no other immediate information.
