A baby and a woman have died after a boat capsized by the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbour.

Coast Guard pulled a dozen survivors from the water after a 22ft motorboat flipped over.

Divers then found the dead infant, who was reportedly only five months old, and the woman.

They were airlifted to a Brooklyn hospital in critical condition, but died.

It is unclear if the victims are related, or what caused the boat to capsize.

The US Coast Guard said earlier that investigators are en route to interview the vessel’s captain as they continue to look into what happened.
