Netflix has officially closed a deal to acquire InterPositive, the stealth artificial intelligence filmmaking startup founded by actor/director Ben Affleck, for a whopping $587 million.

Founded by Affleck in 2022, InterPositive specializes in building specialized AI production infrastructure that’s tailored for filmmakers. According to Affleck, InterPublic’s AI tools help filmmakers improve their footage in post-production, particularly when it comes to making up for “real-world production challenges such as missing shots, background replacements or incorrect lighting.”

Trained strictly on a project’s own daily footage to maintain visual logic, the system assists post-production crews with fixing continuity errors, executing complex wire removals, reframing shots, and tweaking background elements or lighting, reports Hypebeast. As part of the deal, InterPositive’s 16-person team of researchers, engineers, and creatives will integrate directly into Netflix’s internal development pipeline. Affleck will take an official role as a senior advisor for the company.

The AI deal comes as Affleck maintains a busy slate both behind and in front of the camera. He recently starred alongside Matt Damon in the Joe Carnahan-helmed action thriller The Rip for Netflix and is set to direct and star in the upcoming kidnapping thriller Animals alongside Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson.
