Bay Area Older Adults is hosting a slew of events in November, including expert-led birding and wine history walks, and a day trip to Natural Bridges State Park.
First up is an easy, 2.5-mile birding walk on Nov. 13, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., along the Baylands’ sloughs, San Francisquito Creek and the marshlands, a major migratory flyway for birds. An expert Audubon guide will teach participants about birds and native plants and about the California native plant habitats and the ecosystems in the park. The day will end with a social picnic lunch. This program is hosted in partnership with Valley Water. Transportation and lunch are provided.
A Nature Lovers Day Trip to Natural Bridges is set for Friday, Nov. 15, 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m., with an expert guide who will teach participants about the endangered monarch butterfly and the park’s diverse marine life on an easy 2-mile walk.
A Nov. 20 walk in the hills of Fremont Older Open Space Preserve above Cooper Garrod Vineyards will afford views of the valley, native shrubs, grassland and trees including blue elderberry, coyote brush, Coast Live Oak and California Bay with some buckeye and patches of chaparral and Toyon. Hikers can climb up to Maisie’s peak, the highest point in the park, for a 360-degree view of Silicon Valley and beyond.
Along the way, participants will learn about California wine history. At the end of moderate 3-mile walk, there will be a stop for wine tasting at Cooper Garrod.
