Off-duty CPD officer seriously wounds man during domestic dispute in Roseland

An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and critically injured a man during a domestic dispute early Monday in Roseland on the Far South Side.

The officer was in the basement of a home in the 10600 block of South LaSalle Street around 3:05 a.m. when he heard the domestic disturbance and went upstairs, Chicago police said.

The officer encountered the man, and during a confrontation, fired his weapon, striking the man multiple times, police said.

Responding officers rendered aid to the man, who was taken to the Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, officials said.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene.

The officer involved will be placed on administrative duties for at least 30 days, as is routine after a shooting.

The shooting happened 10 minutes after on-duty police officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife in an apartment building in South Shore.
