It can prove tricky at the best of times to reinvent an utter classic in the world of horology, but the Omega Speedmaster has the heritage to stand on its own, as the legendary watchmaker just retooled the space-ready timepiece for the modern era.
The Omega Speedmaster 38mm lineup gets a grand total of seven new references, joining the likes of revamped 2026 releases like the Omega Speedmaster “Reverse Panda” that debuted this past January. At the heart of the latest Speedmaster offering is a new look for the watch subdials themselves, which this time feature a rounded look in a classic nod to the modern-meets-heritage timepiece.
The true legacy of the almost instantly recognizable Omega Speedmaster stretches back decades, right to the first watch to land on the moon itself. The heroic wrist game essential got a fresh coat of horological paint with a 2025 release nodding to the first-ever space watch, paying tribute to Astronaut Walter Schirra’s utterly epic 9-hour, 13-minute, and 11-second Sigma 7 mission in 1962 (every second counts, indeed). A thicker bezel offering also signifies a return to form for the durable and timeless Speedmaster silhouette, the company noted.
There’s an unmatched legacy and near-mythical presence to the Omega Speedmaster, the very model worn by Neil Armstrong on the heels of the Apollo 11 mission, among other honorable feats. Omega and the Seamaster model notably appear on the wrist of James Bond, but for the Speedmaster and its new 38mm editions, classic looks reign supreme. Of note is the use of a 5-link-style bracelet for the latest Omega Speedmaster collection, which the Swiss timepiece brand notes “has evolved with a refined design for contemporary styling.”
A legendary black-dial design offers foundational style, while a crisp white-dial design is retooled with the likes of a blue bezel. On each variation, Omega notes that “the redesigned bracelet features a comfort adjustment system for an even better fit” on the classically styled five-link bracelet. Two fresh iterations of the 38mm Omega Speedmaster also feature Omega signature Moonshine Gold or lavish 18-karat Sedna Gold for a luxurious spin on the sport watch category.
A thicker bezel also boasts the Omega signature “Dot Over Ninety” (DON) tachymeter scale, while two automatic Co-Axial movements add precision and focus to the sporty-yet-ultra-luxurious offering. “Made with size and expressivity in mind, there’s a refreshing new range of materials and colors to explore,” Omega noted.
Gone is the date display on the dial, while the horologist adds that the new references draw “directly from the design codes of the legendary Moonwatch.” Priced starting at $6,500, the renowned Omega Speedmaster embarks on a new celestial mission starting now at Omega boutiues globally.
