LIVERMORE — A person died in an apparent head-on multi-vehicle collision Thursday on a rural Alameda County road, authorities said.
Just after 12:50 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of the collision at Altamont Pass and Northfront roads, CHP Officer Marc Johnston said.
When officers arrived, they found a blue Honda sedan, silver Toyota Prius and a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle had been involved in a head-on collision in eastbound Altamont Pass lanes just east of Northfront, the CHP said.
Officers provided emergency life-saving measures at the scene, with help from arriving Alameda County Fire Department firefighters, but a person was pronounced dead despite their efforts.
The person’s identity was not available, pending next-of-kin notification from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau.
Another person in one of the vehicles managed to get out on their own, but CHP did not initially share information about any injuries beyond the fatality.
The roadway was closed to traffic to allow for investigation and evidence recovery. All lanes reopened shortly before 3 p.m.
Anyone with information should call the CHP’s Dublin area office at 925-828-0466.
