The parents of a baby cared for by serial killer nurse Lucy Letby say she’s an ‘angel’ who ‘saved their child twice’.
The couple, Clare and Carl, delivered their daughter Jessica at the Countess of Chester Hospital 10 years ago while Letby worked there as a neo-natal nurse.
Letby, who is Britain’s most prolific child killer, was sentenced to 14 whole-life orders for the murders and seven attempted killings in 2024.
Each of her offences took place in the neonatal unit where she worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Cheshire between June 2015 and June 2016.
After learning about Letby’s crimes, the couple has insisted she would never harm a baby as she saved their daughter twice after she got into breathing trouble.

‘She delivered her to us and that was a very short, quick interaction as well. She’s just, “Here’s your baby”, kind of thing. “She’s all yours”.’
The pair were speaking on the Amanda Knox on her podcast, who was convicted and later cleared of killing British woman Meredith kercher in Italy in 2007.
Carl said Letby was part of one of the ‘best moments of his life’, and the couple are now experiencing survivors guilt as their child survived while others died.
He accused the hospital of trying to scapegoat an individual for institutional failures.
Carl added: ‘I’d say I’m over 90% sure that they’ve blamed bad management and bad procedures and badly run units on one individual.
‘They’ve seen an opportunity to scapegoat somebody.’
