Douglas County Judge Victoria Klingensmith on Thursday sentenced a former athletic trainer to 76 years to life after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two teenagers at the gyms he owns in Parker and Centennial.
Aaron Thomas Carrado, 51, was convicted of nine felony counts and three misdemeanor counts, including for sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse, according to the 23rd Judicial District.
Carrado, of Sedalia, coached the teens at both of his gyms and he allegedly assaulted them repeatedly between 2019 and 2022, according to the news release. The teens were 15 and 16 years old at the time of the assaults.
Carrado’s wife notified police after finding notes and social media messages he had sent to the two teenagers. The gym trainer fled to Montana during the investigation and was later arrested there, according to the news release.
“The defendant was entrusted to train Olympic-level high school athletes,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Danielle Jaramillo said in a statement. “Instead, he violated and betrayed them. I applaud the court for proving to these courageous survivors that no title, no position and no power can shield a predator from justice.”
