The Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent’s Budget Advisory Committee Wednesday, Oct. 29, will meet for the final time before recommending reductions to the Board of Education.
Throughout September and October the committee, made up of teachers, school staff, principals, administrators, parents, students and local residents, have been meeting as part of the district’s fiscal stabilization plan process.

The Los Angeles County Office of Education required PUSD to submit a fiscal stabilization plan along with its fiscal year budget over the summer due to the district’s ongoing financial troubles.
On Wednesday, the committee will be deciding what reduction recommendations it will be sending to the Board of Education. The Board will review the recommendations during a study session on Nov. 13 and it will vote on final action at the Nov. 20 meeting.
PUSD went through the same process last year that led to the Board of Education voting to cut 150 full-time positions in February. The cuts, that were met with anger and protest, ended up being much fewer after a process guided by state law and the collective bargaining process.
However, the cuts were not enough to pull the district out of its financial hole. Through a combination of declining enrollment, a structural deficit, rising costs and uncertainty in federal funding, PUSD faces a more than $30 million budget shortfall in 2026-27.
The fiscal stabilization plan is meant to cut around $83 million over three years including cutting $30-$35 million in the 2026-27 budget.
Wednesday’s meeting will be held in Room 151 of the district office located at 351 S. Hudson Ave. The meeting will be not streamed live or recorded but is open to the public.
