A 29-year-old Romeoville woman was hit and killed by a semitruck Monday night in Chicago Lawn, according to Chicago police.
According to a traffic crash report, Autumn P. Perez, 29, was standing in the middle of the street at 6341 S. Western Ave. about 6 p.m. when the 35-year-old trucker saw her. The driver of the truck, which was northbound, braked and sounded his horn, and Perez moved to the sidewalk, the report said.
As he got moving again, he peered into his passenger side rearview mirror and saw the woman fall backward into the road, making contact with one of his rear tires, the report said.
The Hickory Hills driver stopped and checked on her and became “emotional,” the report said.
Perez, of Romeoville, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The police major accidents unit is investigating.
