Peter Navarro’s “Liberal Wife” Poll Backfires on X, “Graveyard of Common Sense”

Peter Navarro

President Trump’s senior counselor for trade and manufacturing, Peter Navarro, wrote an op-ed for The Daily Caller this week titled “The Wrong Man to Loomer.” Navarro criticized Trump-supporting social media influencer Laura Loomer, who has stirred opposition to some of the president’s nominees, including his choice for Associate Attorney General at the Department of Justice, Stanley Woodward.

Woodward has defended many of Trump’s allies and aides, including Navarro when he was found guilty of criminal contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena issued by the January 6 committee. Still, Loomer doesn’t approve of Woodward because he is married to Kristin McGough, a D.C. lawyer who has supported the Black Lives Matter movement.

Navarro promoted his op-ed on X by conducting a poll. He asked his followers: “If a man has a wife who is a liberal, he should be FIRED from a conservative administration. Agree or disagree?”

Navarro wasn’t happy with the results of his poll, which drew comments including, “Real conservative men wouldn’t marry a liberal woman.”

Navarro wrote: “Let me get this straight. Around half of you reading this post think that a man should include the ideology of his spouse on his resume and that can be a disqualifier. Do you have any idea how stupid that is? Any idea at all? STUPID. X is now officially the graveyard of common sense.”

Many who disagreed with Navarro expressed in colorful language that they did not approve of him calling them stupid.

U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (R-TN) wrote of the controversy: “We do this every time.”
