PHOTOS: Coloradans capture torrential rain, waves of hail on social media

As afternoon storms arrived in Colorado on Tuesday, bringing with them severe thunderstorm watches and multiple tornado warnings, social media users across the state reported heavy rain, waves of hail and ominous clouds.

“This is why we never put our shovels away in Colorado,” one person wrote on X alongside a photo of a hail-filled patio. “You need them for the hail.”

Heavy rain soaked yards and streets in Parker, which remained under a severe thunderstorm watch and flood warning until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Wind in the area created misty, low-visibility conditions in the Douglas County town, according to video captured on house cameras.

Additional X users captured the “torrential” Parker rain mixing with pea-size hail, flooding the sidewalk outside of their home, and low-hanging clouds moving east of the city in an area under a National Weather Service tornado warning.

Heavy rain and hail also pummeled Colorado Springs on Tuesday afternoon, according to social media users. One video showed hail bouncing off a sloped lawn and cars kicking up water while driving down the road.

The storm passed quickly through Colorado Springs, but the pebble-sized hail still littered the grounds of The Broadmoor when it cleared.
