Nearly 41,000 White Sox fans gathered at Rate Field Tuesday for a Pope Leo XIV-themed night featuring the stadiumwide giveaway of a pontiff-style Sox hat and a fifth-inning “peace be with you” greeting.
Sox fans and players embraced the local legacy Tuesday, as Sister Mary Jo Sobieck of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield threw the first pitch while the team’s Southpaw mascot donned his own pope hat and garb.
