San Jose’s Playful People Productions has announced its 15th anniversary season, with all rehearsals and performances taking place at the Historic Hoover Theatre, 1635 Park Ave.
The 2025-26 season opens with “Disney’s Moana Jr.,” suitable for performers ages 5-11. Registration is open for the musical, with a book by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’I and Mark Mancina and lyrics by Miranda and Foa’I. Auditions are Aug. 11-13, rehearsals begin Aug. 25 and performances are Oct. 17-19. Tuition is $625.
“Newsies!,” another Disney show, is up next. Registration is open for the musical for ages 11 and up. The show is set in turn-of-the century New York City and based on the real-life newsboys strike of 1899. Auditions are Aug. 11-14, rehearsals begin Aug. 25 and performances are Nov. 8-16. Tuition is $575.
Playful People will start the new year with “The One Act Play That Goes Wrong” by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields for ages 16 and up. This one-act spawned the full-length, Tony-winning “Play That Goes Wrong.” Auditions are set for Jan. 7-8, 2026, with rehearsals beginning in January for a production that hits the stage in March. Tuition is $575.
Also auditioning in January is “Between the Lines Jr.,” a musical based on the young adult novel by Jodi Picoult and her daughter Samantha van Leer. Auditions for performers ages 12-17 are set for Jan. 19-22, with rehearsals beginning Feb. 2 and performances April 10-12. Tuition is $550.
The final show of the season will be “Willy Wonka Jr.,” for performers ages 4-12. Auditions will be March 2-5, with rehearsals beginning March 16 and performances May 15-24. Tuition is $550.
