Kennedy Lenai Stith is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing Sept. 24 in the East County Hall of Justice, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
The complaint alleges Stith fatally stabbed 32-year-old Edevion White on May 1, 2023.
Stith initially told investigators White was killed by home-invasion robbers, but that story fell apart under scrutiny, according to authorities. For instance, White’s body fell next to the front door, making it difficult for the alleged robbers to escape after they had mortally wounded him.
Pleasanton police said Stith also raised suspicions when she failed to show up for a scheduled interview and never checked for an update on the investigation after making her initial statement.
In addition, friends and family told investigators the couple frequently argued about money. Stith allegedly brandished a knife and threatened to kill White during one spat, police said.
Stith was arrested Sept. 12 in Oakland. She is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
