A police dog was hailed a hero after tracking down a missing 12-year-old child after miles in freezing cold weather.

The child was last seen leaving home in the Pakachoag Hill area around 8.30pm on Wednesday, stated the Auburn Police Department on Facebook.

Numerous officers and detectives and troopers from the Massachusetts State Police responded to try to find the child ‘due to the freezing temperatures and nature of the incident’, said the police department.

Among those deployed were Officer Ljunggren and his K9 partner Biza.

‘K9 Biza was able to pick up a scent and began to track the scent,’ stated the police department.

‘K9 Biza tracked for a length of over two miles and led Officers to an area where evidence showed that the child had been present a short time earlier.’

Officers went to that area and found the child shortly afterward. The child was reunited with family safely.

‘We are proud of the hard work put in by K9 Biza and are happy to report a positive outcome!’ stated the police department.
