Police identify man killed at Bay Area gas station, shooter claims self defense

Police have released the identity of the man fatally shot in the parking lot of a Vacaville gas station Sunday, and said that the woman involved in the incident claims to have acted in self-defense.

The deceased was identified as Jason Demar Robinson, 42, of San Francisco, according to a Vacaville Police Department update issued Friday evening.

As previously reported, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, in the 800 block of Leisure Town Road, where they found Robinson suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by officers at the scene, he was pronounced dead inside the gas station’s convenience store, where he had run after being shot.

The woman involved remained at the scene and was detained for questioning. Investigators say that Robinson and the woman had previously been in a romantic relationship and that a violent confrontation preceded the shooting. The woman told officers she fired in self-defense, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Police said Friday that the woman has not been arrested and their investigation continues. Once it is complete, it will be turned over to the Solano County District Attorney’s office for formal review and a determination of whether or not it was self-defense.
