Police identify man killed in Pleasanton shooting

PLEASANTON – A man killed in a shooting Friday night in Pleasanton has been identified as 61-year-old Lance Chan and the adult suspect’s father, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. in the 4600 block of Helpert Court, near Inglewood Drive, according to the Pleasanton Police Department. Officers arrived to find Chan suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Chan’s son — Lucas Chan, 28, of Pleasanton — was taken into custody at the scene.

Improvised explosive devices were also removed from the suspect’s home, police said. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has since joined the investigation because of the discovery of the devices, as well as a 3D printer and multiple ghost guns.

Witness accounts indicated the shooting was preceded by a verbal dispute, police said.

“Currently, there is no known threat to public safety,” police said in a news release Monday.

Lucas Chan was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on felony charges including murder and possession of a destructive device, according to Alameda County jail records.
