Polytechnic High dedicated its new gym in honor of Gail Goodrich, the NBA Hall of Famer and “UCLA Great”

Leaders at John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley on Friday dedicated their school’s new gymnasium in honor of distinguished alumnus Gail Goodrich (’61), the NBA Hall of Famer and “UCLA Great.” A happy crowd gathered at the school to hear the famed basketball champion.

“It is these championship teams (Poly High, UCLA, and Lakers) that I played on that are the signature of my career,” Goodrich said. “I’m very proud to have played for the Poly Parrots. Today is a day for me to recall. To bring back the memories and thank those who helped me on my journey.”

The school’s principal, Walter Rich, said, “From the halls of Poly High School to the Hall of Fame, our new gymnasium will proudly bear his name the Gail Goodrich Sports Complex.”

Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said, “Let Mr. Goodrich’s life serve as an example to all of you what you can accomplish and what can you become.”

LAUSD Board Member Kelly Gonez, representing District 6 in the East San Fernando Valley, said, “Gail Goodrich is an example of excellence and perseverance. He is one of us, he is one of you, he is a Poly Parrot.”
