Pontins Prestatyn: Armed police seen at holiday park sparking panic after ‘shouts’ heard

ARMED police sparked panic today as they were spotted swarming a holiday park after locals said they heard shouting.

Onlookers say they heard a commotion coming from North Wales‘ former Pontins park this morning.

Locals say they heard shouting coming from an old holiday park this morning

Snaps showed cops in riot gear outside the much-loved Pontins Prestatyn – which closed in November.

The park had opened in 1971 and been enjoyed by families in the decades that followed.

Onlookers were today shocked to see armed cops on its grounds.

However, police later confirmed it was a training exercise.

Witnesses told the Journal: “Armed police were outside a (holiday) block and police cars were all by the entrance of Pontins.

“I was nearby and heard shouting… and when driving home, I’ve just seen all of the police.”

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this is a training exercise, not an ongoing incident.”

Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park closed in November last year with no explanation.

The Journal reported Butlin’s is believed to be interested in acquiring the site.

It reported this week: “This year sees our biggest-ever investment across our three resorts.

“As a fast-growing and well-backed business, we’re always looking for new opportunities, and the North West is an obvious location for us in the future.”
