A kitchen gadget sold on Amazon has been banned and will be destroyed over a ‘serious’ risk of fire and explosion.
The UK government has issued a warning that the machine used to dehydrate foods should not be used, and any imports will be intercepted.
In a recall notice, the Office for Product Safety and Standards said: ‘The product presents a serious risk of fire as the fuse has insufficient granular filler to operate safely under fault conditions.
‘The import has been rejected at the border and destroyed.’
Their product safety notice relates to the Moongiantgo Food Dehydrator, which can be used to make dried fruit snacks, among other things.

It says that the black and silver food dehydrator with power supply plug does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, or the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.
They were alerted to the problem by Trading Standards, and have now issued the alert.
It had been sold on Amazon under the identifiers X0023IMAUX and FBA15K4P3TBJU000004.
Other recent product recalls include a refillable water balloon sold by Fruugo which contains magnets which could be swallowed, an aluminium step ladder ‘presenting a high risk of injuries’ due to being unstable, and black Quechua mountain snowshoes sold by Decathlon which ‘presents a high risk of injuries as there is a screw defect’.
