Putin makes menacing new threat after Russia warns UK ‘directly involved’ in war

The UK is ‘directly involved’ in the Ukraine war after its missiles were used to strike targets in Russia, an ambassador has said.

Andrei Kelin, the Russian ambassador to the UK, warned Britain the use of Storm Shadow missiles is bringing the country directly into the conflict.

He said: ‘The UK is now directly involved in this war, because this firing cannot happen without NATO staff, British staff as well.

‘The US administration, supported by France and the UK, has made a deliberate decision to make these strikes, which seriously escalates the situation, and it can bring a collision between the nuclear powers.’

Britain had previously said Ukraine could use Storm Shadow cruise missiles within Ukrainian territory but the government has been pressing the United States for permission to allow their use to strike targets inside Russia for several months.

US President Joe Biden changed its policy to allow Ukraine to use American-made weapons to strike deep into Russia this week.

Debris from the attacks appears to confirm Storm Shadows were used in the attack, which reportedly targeted a ‘military facility’ in the area.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Storm Shadows had also targeted Vladimir Putin’s £1 billion Crimean Bridge but were downed.

He responded on Thursday by saying Russia had tested a new intermediate-range missile in a strike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

The Russian president said: ‘We believe that we have the right to use our weapons against military facilities of the countries that allow to use their weapons against our facilities.

‘And in case of escalation of aggressive actions, we will respond resolutely in a mirror way.’

There was a warning today that Vladimir Putin’s new Oreshnik hypersonic missile could hit Britain in just 20 minutes.

Ukraine was braced today for savage new Russian attacks after he dropped his new Oreshnik hypersonic missile on Dnipro yesterday.

The country’s parliament cancelled a sitting amid fears of a mammoth strike on Kyiv.

Times of Ukraine channel warned this missile could hit Britain in 20 minutes.

It claimed the Oreshnik was likely a revamping of an old Cold War intercontinental RS-26 Rubezh missile.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky demanded international action after the use of the powerful missile.

Putin ‘is lying when he says that Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons is some kind of new step’  he said.
