The Colorado Rapids are open for business early.
The club is finalizing a trade for CF Montréal winger Dante Sealy in exchange for $2 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) and performance-based add-ons, sources confirmed to The Denver Post on Monday.
The 22-year-old winger had a breakout season last year for Montréal and finished with nine goals and two assists. Seven of those goals came in the second half of the season.
In four previous seasons with FC Dallas, he totaled two goals and an assist in 38 appearances. Sealy was one of the bright spots on a bad Montréal team, scoring the second-most goals for the club last year behind Prince Owusu (13).
The lefty’s standout stretch was scoring three goals in two games late last season, during which he scored two similar-looking, but stunning near-post free kicks from 22 yards out just right of center.
According to FBRef, Sealy’s shooting stats are what make him stand out against other wingers. Most notable is his ability to outperform his xG: 0.12 goals more than expected, in the 91st percentile in MLS. His passing numbers and quality sit around the top quartile of MLS wingers and his defensive metrics are slightly above average.
He’s been called up multiple times to the Trinidad and Tobago national team, including for World Cup qualifiers. After a 6-2 win over St. Kitts and Nevis in June in which he scored twice, Trinidad and Tobago head coach Dwight Yorke called him a “special talent.”
His contract is through the 2026 season with a club option for 2027. His salary until then is just $104,000 in base salary, which is slightly above league minimum. Despite a steep transfer fee, he could be a crucial piece of roster building if he can replicate his 2025 production next year.
If finalized, it would be the first offseason move aside from contract decisions made by the Rapids ahead of the 2026 season. Last week, sources told The Denver Post that a coaching hire has been made in Tottenham Hotspur assistant Matt Wells, but the club has not yet made it official.
