River North shooting caps off holiday gun violence that leaves 28 shot, 6 dead across Chicago

At least 28 people have been shot, six fatally, across Chicago since the start of the long holiday weekend Wednesday, according to Chicago police.

Early Sunday a shooting in River North left one man dead and three others in critical condition.

The victims were getting into a green Lamborghini around 2:35 a.m. in the 400 block of North La Salle Drive when four gunmen walked up and opened fire, according to police.

The four shooting victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A 34-year-old man was shot several times and pronounced dead. The other three were all in critical condition: a 36-year-old man shot in the chest, a 43-year-old man shot in the back and a 35-year-old man shot multiple times, according to police.

No one has been arrested, police said.

The long holiday weekend violence started in Englewood on Christmas Eve when four men were shot around 12:04 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Halsted Street. Two men approached the group and opened fire, according to police.

One man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 27-year-old man was shot in the right leg and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. A 38-year-old man was grazed by a bullet to his right arm. A 33-year-old man was grazed by a bullet on his right forearm, police said.

On Christmas, a 32-year-old man was cleaning his gun inside an Albany Park home when the gun went off and struck a 20-year-old man in his hand, according to police. The incident happened just before noon in the 3700 block of West Agatite Avenue.

The 20-year-old was taken to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital in good condition. The 32-year-old man is a valid FOID holder, police said. No one was arrested.

Later that day, a man was found shot in the back and right armpit around 10 p.m. near the 7400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing, according to police. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

About an hour later, a 37-year-old man was shot during an argument with another man in Englewood, according to police. The two men were arguing near the 300 block of West Marquette Road when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the 37-year-old multiple times. The man was hospitalized in critical condition, police said. No one is in custody.

Later Friday, a 25-year-old woman was shot and killed around 5:20 p.m. while walking near the 8000 block of South Harvard Avenue in West Chatham, police said. She was shot in the head and was hospitalized in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead, police said.

Around 10:20 p.m., a 49-year-old man was found shot multiple times in a Grand Crossing home in the 400 block of East 72nd Street, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene and a gun was also found inside the home, according to police. No arrests were made.

Twenty minutes later, a 17-year-old boy was in a West Lawn alley in the 6800 block of South Kostner Avenue when a man shot him multiple times, according to police. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and was in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center. No one was arrested police said.

Around 10:45 p.m. in West Garfield Park, a 42-year-old man was in a fight with several others when he was grazed by a bullet to his head in the 500 block of South Pulaski Road, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. No one has been arrested, according to police.

On Saturday, a man was found fatally shot before dawn in the Uptown neighborhood. The 23-year-old man was found on the ground about 4 a.m. in the 5100 block North Sheridan Road, police said.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A witness told police they saw a vehicle fleeing the scene. No arrests were made.

Later that day, two men were shot around 3 p.m. in Washington Heights, police said. Two men got out of a silver SUV in the 8900 block of South Loomis Street and shot the two victims. Both victims — an 18-year-old man shot in the buttocks and a 22-year-old man shot in the arm — were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

The gunmen fled in the SUV southbound on Loomis. No one has been arrested, police said.

Around 3:20 p.m., a 20-year-old man in Austin was shot in the back after arguing with another man in the 100 block North Leclaire Avenue, police said. The man was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. No one was arrested, police said.

In South Deering, two gunmen were shooting at a car around 6 p.m. in the 2900 block of East 97th Street when a 31-year-old in a different car was struck by gunfire, police said. He took himself to Trinity Hospital with a graze wound in his back. No one has been arrested, police said.

On Sunday around 4 p.m., a man shot three men near the 1200 block of West 78th Place in Auburn Gresham, police said. A 30-year-old man was struck in the shoulder and taken to University of Chicago Hospital. A 33-year-old man was shot in the foot and taken to Holy Cross Hospital. A 38-year-old man was shot in the hip and taken to Christ Hospital. All three men were in stable condition, according to police. No one has been arrested, police said.
