A car crash inside Heathrow Tunnel is causing delays towards Terminals 2 and 3 in London.

The internal tunnel leading towards the airport was shut in both directions for about an hour this morning amid the incident.

Traffic on the M4 Heathrow Spur and the A4 Bath Road is still moving slow – with some areas trapped in a standstill.

Multiple bus routes – the 105, 111, 278, 285, SL9, A10, SL7 and U3 – are also on diversion, only adding to the chaos on the road.

Travellers are being warned to plan ahead to not get trapped in the gridlock this morning.

Passengers caught in the disruption around the Heathrow Tunnel are now becoming increasingly concerned that they will miss their flight.

One person wrote in a message to British Airways: ‘They have closed the tunnel into HeathrowAirport – does the airline know this?

‘My flight departs at 9/45am, what’s the situation if I can’t make the flight.’

The nature of the incident remains unclear, and it has not been confirmed if anyone has been injured.

Metro has contacted the London Fire Brigade for a comment.

What happens if you miss a flight because of traffic?

If you miss a flight because of traffic, you generally have no right to compensation, as the airline will likely deem you responsible for the delay.

Contact the airline: As soon as you realize that you will miss a flight, call the airline to let them know.

This is crucial to avoid being marked as a ‘no-show,’ which could lead to the cancellation of your return flight or any connections.

Request rebooking: Ask the airline if they can rebook you on the next available flight.

But be prepared that this may involve extra fees or the cost of a new ticket.
