‘Congratulations to president Donald Trump on his enormous win!’ Messages have started to trickle in from world leaders even before a definitive victory against Kamala Harris has been declared.
British PM Sir Keir Starmer joined the chorus of congratulations to the Republican nominee, who self-declared as the next US president in a speech to his MAGA movement in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Labour leader said that ‘as the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise’.
Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Republican nominee for his ‘historic return to the White House’, which he said offers a ‘new beginning’ for the country and a ‘powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America’.

No congratulations have arrived from the Kremlin, but Russia’s Security Council deputy head Dmitry Medvedev said Trump ‘dislikes spending money on various hangers-on and freeloaders,’ including Ukraine.
He wrote in an ominous post on Telegram: ‘Trump has one quality that is useful for us: as a businessman to the core, he mortally dislikes spending money on various hangers-on and hangers-on – on idiotic allies, on bad charity projects and on gluttonous international organisations.’
Medvedev also said vice president Harris is ‘finished’ and that Russia’s ‘special military operation’ will continue until its objectives are achieved.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky also congratulated Trump on the election ‘victory’.

He stressed that he appreciated his ‘commitment to the “peace through strength” approach’ to global affairs and that the principle could ‘bring just peace in Ukraine closer’.
‘I am hopeful that we will put it into action together. We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under president Trump’s decisive leadership,’ he said.
As votes are still being counted, early congratulations could be viewed as some sort of a gesture towards Trump, indicating a potential alignment with his policies.
For others, it may be a calculated step, especially if a second Trump administration seems inevitable.

More and more political leaders have shared celebratory messages for Trump. In the meantime, Harris is still picking up votes as she is projected to win Minnesota and New Jersey.
Hungary’s right-wing prime minister Viktor Orban, who openly endorsed Trump’s bid for the White House, said on Facebook: ‘On the way to a beautiful victory.’
In a separate post the politician stressed that this is the ‘biggest comeback in US political history’.
The Dutch anti-Islam populist Geert Wilders also prematurely congratulated the Republican nominee, saying: ‘Congratulations America!
‘Never stop and always keep fighting to win elections.’
President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, also jumped on the bandwagon with a post on X: ‘Congratulations to the president-elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump. May God bless and guide you.’
