SAN JOSE — A man’s body was found at Independence High School early Thursday, prompting a police investigation into how he died and why he was on the grounds, authorities said.
An unconscious man was discovered at the North Jackson Avenue campus just before 7 a.m., according to San Jose police. Both police officers and San Jose fire personnel responded to the scene, and the man was pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that the man was not affiliated with the school, but declined to release additional details, citing that “we are still in the infancy of our investigation.” They did, however, state that the situation did not pose a threat to the school or public safety.
There was no indication Thursday that the death was being investigated as a homicide. The discovery of the man’s body occurred at least 90 minutes before the start of classes at the high school.
