SAN JOSE – One person died in a fatal solo vehicle collision Monday night on Highway 130, according to the California Highway Patrol San Jose Area.
The collision occurred in the vicinity of Saw Tooth Canyon, authorities said. The Golden Gate Communications Center received a call reporting the crash at about 8:55 p.m.
A sedan had been travelling westbound when it exited the roadway and crashed into a retaining wall and culvert, authorities said. The vehicle then caught fire and was entirely engulfed by flames.
The one occupant of the car attempted to exit the burning vehicle but could not, authorities said.
When authorities arrived on scene, the car and occupant were unidentifiable, CHP said. The sedan may have been a Ford.
The victim’s name was not immediately released publicly pending identification and notification of their next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
There was no impact to traffic, authorities added.
