Scattered showers and storms on the way to Chicago area

A storm system making its way to the Chicago area is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms by this evening, forecasters say.

Humid, cloudy and warm conditions will change into showers this afternoon and evening and continue into early Thursday, said National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Doom, who added there are no active watches or warnings in effect.

Rainfall totals may reach up to around one inch, especially west of Chicagoland and half an inch or so closer to the city, according to Doom.

Thursday is expected to clear up and temperatures should reach the mid 70s downtown in the city and the upper 70s further inland, according to Doom.

An early look at the weekend looks like it might be warm: “The 80s with a heat index near the 90s inland,” Doom said.
