Schools west of metro Denver close Friday due to power outages amid winds

School district officials west of metro Denver in Boulder and Jefferson County closed schools at multiple locations Friday morning due to power outages.

In Jefferson County, district officials listed the following schools closed “as a result of Xcel Energy’s Public Safety Power Shutoff”:

All other public schools in Jeffco were to proceed as usual, Jefferson County schools said in a posting on the district website. Charter school families were directed to check with their schools to verify weather-related delays and closures. In the Conifer area, district officials noted that “schools that currently have power continue to be affected by a power outage at the water treatment facility that impacts the water supply.”

In Boulder County, the Boulder Valley School District officials issued a notice canceling all schools on Friday “due to forecasted unsafe weather conditions and extended power outages.” All before and after-school child care and enrichment opportunities also would be canceled, officials said, and “there will be no remote learning.”

University of Colorado officials in Boulder announced an “administrative closure” for Friday due to “due to forecasted high winds, planned power outages, and high fire danger.”
