U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), who is not seeking re-election, announced that he agreed with President Trump when Trump wrote on social media, “Communism is an INHUMAN ideology that has led to DEATH and DESTRUCTION around the World!”
[NOTE: Leading up to the midterm elections, Trump and leaders of the Republican party including Vice President Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson have been attacking Democrats by calling them communists. Last week, Trump said Communism is “the biggest threat to our country, including World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, September 11.” He added, “It’s a bigger threat, potentially a bigger threat than that, because it’s like a cancer that spreads, and you better stop it fast.”]
Tillis wrote on Sunday: “President Trump is right: communism is an inhuman ideology that brings only death and destruction. Vladimir Putin is the latest authoritarian carrying forward that brutal Soviet legacy, aligning with Iran and North Korea to undermine democracy. We have seen the savagery of that ambition firsthand in Ukraine. ‘Win-win’ strategies work in the private sector, but there is no middle ground between freedom and totalitarian aggression. We cannot accommodate a dictator bent on destroying sovereign democracies. American strength and resolve are the only answers.”

Former DOJ attorney Gregg Nunziata, a veteran of the conservative legal movement who served as Chief Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee and as an adviser to then-Sen. Marco Rubio, criticized Tillis and replied: “We’re still pretending, still, that Trump is right and that he gets all this? He’s being poorly served by advisors? One of the best Republican senators, heading to the exits, and still afraid to simply speak truth.”
