Senator Says Trump’s Oil Holdings Soared During Iran War, “Americans Are Suffering”

Sen. Maggie Hassan

Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) posted Monday about a new Democratic congressional report estimating that the value of President Trump’s oil and gas investments has risen during the war with Iran.

“Trump and Big Oil profit while Americans have to spend $100+ billion more on gas. Our new report shows that Trump’s own oil and gas stock holdings are up to as much as $81.6 million amid his Iran War. Trump doesn’t ‘give a damn’ that Americans are suffering.”

The report comes from Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee, where Hassan is the top Democrat. According to CBS News, it says Trump’s oil and gas positions are now worth $22.5 million to $81.6 million, up from $12.6 million to $46 million at the end of 2025.

Hassan told CBS: “Trump’s Iran War has forced Americans to pay much more at the pump,” and his actions “raise major concerns about conflicts of interest.”

Note: Gas averaged $4.29 a gallon in the report’s tally, up from $2.87 before the war.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded: “President Trump only acts in the best interests of the American public,” and that his portfolio is “independently managed by third-party financial institutions.”

“Neither President Trump nor any member of his family has any ability to direct, influence” the investments, Ingle said. “There are no conflicts of interest.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) reacted with a call for legislation: “It should be illegal for the President, VP, and lawmakers in Congress to own, buy, and sell individual stocks.”

Trump addressed the gas-price complaints himself Saturday, in remarks Hassan’s post quotes: “We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they’re making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.”
