Sepulveda Basin brush fire near Army Recruiting Battalion is stopped at 4 acres

Los Angeles firefighters stopped the spread of a 4-acre brush fire in the Sepulveda Basin Wednesday that left one person injured and disrupted Metro bus service.

The fire was reported shortly after noon near Victory and Balboa boulevards in Van Nuys, initially burning about 1.5 acres, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Flames engulfed multiple palm trees and threatened the Metro G (Orange) Line busway, leading to the suspension of service between the Woodley and White Oak stations, the department said.

A man was evaluated for a minor burn injury, authorities said.

Air and ground crews responded to the scene, including near the Army Recruiting Battalion, where flames may have threatened vehicles in the parking lot.

Forward progress was halted by 2 p.m. Wednesday, and the total area burned was estimated at 4 acres, the department said.

Crews were expected to remain on scene to mop up hot spots and ensure containment.
