Sharks bring back familiar names as analysts for audio broadcasts

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks will have some familiar faces working alongside Foster Hewitt Memorial Award winner Dan Rusanowsky in their audio broadcast booth this season.

The Sharks announced Thursday that Scott Hannan, Jamal Mayers, Jason Demers, and Alex Stalock will alternate as Rusanowsky’s color analyst this season, adding that Drew Remenda, Ted Ramey, and former defenseman Dan Boyle may also work on select broadcasts.

Hannan, Demers, and Stalock were all Sharks draft picks. Those three and Mayers spent a combined 24 years in the NHL with the organization.

An opening on the broadcast team was created after Bret Hedican left the Sharks for a job as a player development analyst in the San Diego Gulls’ front office. Hedican worked as a color analyst on Sharks broadcasts for 10 years.

Hannan, who played 11 of his 16 NHL seasons with the Sharks, has worked numerous times with Rusanowsky before. Demers, who played six years in San Jose and retired in 2023, has recently worked with the NHL Network and on pre- and postgame shows on NBC Sports California. Stalock retired earlier this year after a 16-season pro career, which included eight years in the Sharks organization.

Mayers, who played the 2010-2011 season with the Sharks, has most recently worked as an analyst with Sportsnet in Canada. He is also on the board of directors of the NHL Alumni Association.

As previously reported by this news organization, Remenda will primarily work this season on television broadcasts with longtime play-by-play voice Randy Hahn. Hannan, Mayers, Demers, and Stalock will also appear on the broadcasts.

Of the Sharks’ 82 regular-season games, 76 will appear on NBC Sports California, with the other six either on ESPN or ESPN+. The Sharks’ season-opener at home on Oct. 10 against the St. Louis Blues will be shown exclusively on ESPN+ and Hulu.

NBC Sports California has not yet named its primary studio host for the Sharks pregame and postgame shows after the network did not renew the contract of longtime host Brodie Brazil.
