Shoppers’ fight over failure to say thank you ends with fatal shooting

A woman was fatally shot outside a Dallas store where she had argued with a shopper who failed to thank her for holding a door.

Cecilia Simpson, 41, died after the attack around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Dallas police said.

The suspected killer is a 22-year-old woman whom Simpson had reportedly first encountered as they were leaving a Five Below store at Wheatland Towne Crossing, a mall at the south edge of Dallas.

Simpson held the door open for the other woman and became annoyed when she was not thanked, a witness said in an affidavit cited by TV station KTVT.

After a verbal confrontation outside the Five Below, the other shopper allegedly followed Simpson into a PetSmart, where employees asked the arguing women to leave. In the parking lot, the dispute became physical. After Simpson hit her, the younger woman pulled out a gun and fired three times, the witness said.

The shooter fled in a car. The suspect, arrested that evening, faces a murder charge, police said.
