Barbecue lovers will be delighted to learn that an upcoming tasting event promises a little bit of everything.
The second annual Smoke & Oak BBQ tasting event returns to Long Beach Sept. 5 with dozens of pitmasters showing off their best styles of barbecue at Promenade Square Park. The 4-8 p.m. event will include local BBQ spots like Long Beach’s Axiom Smoked Meats & BBQ, organizers of the event who cook smoked barbecue plates inspired by the Chamorro Islands (think of dishes with red rice and Kelaguen, a side dish that is similar to a ceviche).
Also on the lineup is Big Brian’s Meats, which focuses on pit-grilled tri-tip, spare ribs and Latin flavors like the smoked brisket torta and pit-grilled pollo asado. Those who want something different can try Shourai BBQ, which makes Central Texas/Japanese fusion barbecue.
And for low-and-slow smoked meats, head over to the OC Smokehouse. The event will also include whiskey tastings and live music.
The Smoke & Oak BBQ Tasting takes place Sept. 5 at Promenade Square Park, 215 E. First St, Long Beach. Tickets start at $92.97 and can be purchased at axiomproductionsllc.com/events/smoke-and-oak
