Around 70 firefighters are tackling a massive blaze at a block of flats in Walworth, south London.

A photo shared by somebody on Reddit from Brixton shows smoke billowing into the sky.

Video shared on X shows plumes of black smoke coming from a flat on the 11th floor of the 17-storey building.

There are no reports of any injuries but one woman reportedly fled her flat before the firefighters arrived at 1.55pm.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed that they are in attendance at the scene on Hillingdon Street.

They posted on X: ‘Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire at a block of flats on Hillingdon Street in Walworth.

‘Control Officers have taken over 40 calls and we’re asking people to avoid the area whilst we respond.

‘More to follow.’

Station Commander Tony Perks is at the scene and added: ‘This is a very visible fire, and the area is becoming increasingly busy as a result.

‘People are advised to avoid the area at this time, while we work to bring the fire under control.’

The cause of the fire is not known yet.
