Fox News host Laura Ingraham interviewed President Trump’s Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller at the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., where they discussed the newly revoked temporary protective status (TPS) for Haitians, which was granted in 2010 after a major earthquake in Haiti.
The TPS has allowed eligible Haitians to live in the U.S. legally with a pathway to work authorization.
[NOTE: After the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 this week saying the Trump administration can remove thousands of Haitians who currently have TPS, Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine called on the White House to reconsider, citing their value to the assisted living and nursing home industries. DeWine told CNN: “It’s Haitians who, many times, are taking care of your mom or your dad who has Alzheimer’s, taking care of family members who might be in a nursing home.”]
When Ingraham mentioned DeWine’s plea to Miller, he started to laugh.
Ingraham said: “Mike DeWine said we’ll cease to have healthcare workers in his state if you deport all those Haitians.”
She added sarcastically: “We’ve never had healthcare workers in the country until we had Haitians.”

Stephen Miller replied: “If I have a loved one who’s, and I’m going to be very politically incorrect, if I have a loved one in the hospital in emergency medical care, I’m going to take licensed American nurse, not the illegal alien from Haiti. That’s just me.”
Ingraham didn’t address Miller’s preference, replying, “Alright, Stephen, good to see you.”
[NOTE: ER nurses are licensed professionals. Attendants in nursing homes, whom DeWine mentions, often aren’t required to be licensed because they don’t administer medication or provide other medical services that require licensing.]
